Azeroth DB
Privacy Policy
What Azeroth DB collects when you visit, sign in, publish or send World Recorder data, why, who receives it and how to control it.
Who we are and what this notice covers
This notice explains how the operator of wowdb.wiki ("we", "us") collects, uses, shares and keeps information when you visit wowdb.wiki, sign in, use its tools, publish content or send data with the World Recorder addon and its uploader. We decide why and how this information is processed and are responsible for it.
You can read the database and use every tool without an account. An account is needed only to keep your work across devices, publish content and send World Recorder data.
Information collected when you visit
When your browser requests a page, our servers and Cloudflare, which delivers the site, receive your IP address, the requested address, the time, your browser and device type and the referring page. This is needed to deliver the page and to protect the site against abuse and attacks.
Our web server writes each request to its access log: the sending IP address, the time, the requested address, the response status and size, the referring page and the browser's user agent. Request bodies are not logged.
On public pages we use Google Analytics and PostHog to count page views and understand which pages and tools are used. They receive the page address without its query string or fragment, the website you came from (its domain only), your browser, device and screen type, and an approximate location the provider derives from your IP address. Each sets an identifier in a cookie or your browser's storage so that repeat visits can be counted. A search is sent when you open a result, press Enter, close or leave the search, or change its kind, sort or result page. That event includes the search phrase; opening a result also sends its kind and position. Text still being typed and private plan contents are excluded. Session recording and automatic capture of other clicks or keystrokes are disabled. Account, profile and moderation pages are excluded from analytics.
Information kept in your browser
Tools keep your plans and inputs, such as talent and Legacy choices, equipment, recipe batches, materials and gathering routes, in your browser's local storage. Work started before signing in is offered for an explicit choice to keep it in your account; its browser copy remains. While signed in, changes to your account's plan synchronize with that account. Interface preferences, such as a collapsed introduction, are kept in your browser and never leave it.
We set these cookies:
- wow_session: keeps you signed in. It holds a random token and lasts 100 days or until you sign out.
- wow_auth_state: protects a sign-in in progress. It lasts a few minutes.
- Google Analytics and PostHog cookies or storage entries: count visits, as described above.
Information collected when you sign in
You sign in through Google, Discord, Twitch or Steam. From that provider we receive your account identifier with it, your display name, the address of your profile picture and your email address, where the provider supplies them; Steam supplies no email address. We keep the email address to contact you about your account. We do not ask any provider for your contacts, friends list or password.
With your account we keep:
- your chosen display name and profile-picture preference, with the provider picture refreshed when you sign in again;
- the email address your sign-in provider supplies and whether the provider has verified it, updated when you sign in again;
- your saved plans and tool state;
- the builds you publish, and the comments, screenshots and likes you post;
- the computers you link to World Recorder, by the name you give them, the date you linked each one and its last upload;
- your World Recorder uploads and the character records they contain, described below;
- moderation records, such as a removed post or a ban.
World Recorder data
World Recorder is an optional game addon with an uploader. The addon records what your game client shows you while you play: quest givers and quest text, creatures and objects you meet with your position at the time, loot windows, vendor and trainer offers, flight paths, gathering, skill ranks and your key bindings for the game windows the site's tools refer to. Quest text replaces your character's name with a placeholder.
Per character it keeps the name and realm, class and race, sex, faction, level, experience, money, guild, current map, skills, equipped items with enchantments and random bonuses, talent and Legacy choices, completed quests, achievement dates and progress, statistics, known titles and collected mounts. Equipment-change measurements and dungeon combat records are also sent when recorded. Auction-house reads keep the items, prices and quantities listed in the house, without sellers' names.
The uploader sends this save to us with an installation identifier, the uploader version and the game build, using the key issued when you linked the computer to your account. We use the game observations to complete the database; what we publish from them are game facts, never your name or character. Your characters appear on your public profile and next to your published work unless you hide them; money and experience are shown only to you. Your recording statistics are public only if you choose to show them.
Assistant apps
When you use this site's app in ChatGPT or another assistant, the assistant sends this site the tool it calls and that tool's inputs: a search phrase, a record kind or page path, a language and a result position. The site uses them only to answer that request and does not store them. The request carries no account or cookie, so the site cannot tie it to you. Like every request, it appears in the web server's access log described above.
Feedback and corrections
Reports about wrong values, bugs, suggestions and votes go to our portal at vote.wowdb.wiki, which uses player.vote. The portal handles those submissions under its own account, visibility and privacy choices. The database's contribution panel handles comments and screenshots shared with other players, not feedback sent to the site team.
What other people can see
Published builds, approved comments and screenshots, likes counts, characters you have not hidden and statistics you made public are visible to everyone, together with your display name and picture. Posts waiting for moderation are visible only to you and our moderators.
How we use information and why
We use information only for these purposes:
- to provide the site, your account, your saved work and the features you choose to use, because you asked us to (performance of our agreement with you);
- to publish the content you choose to publish (performance of our agreement with you);
- to build and correct the database from World Recorder uploads (performance of our agreement with you, and our legitimate interest in an accurate database);
- to keep the site secure, limit abuse, moderate content and enforce our Terms of Service (legitimate interests);
- to measure how the site is used and improve it (legitimate interests);
- to comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests (legal obligation).
Who we share information with
We do not sell or rent personal information and do not use it for advertising. We share it only with:
- Cloudflare, which delivers the site and protects it against attacks;
- Google (Google Analytics) and PostHog, which process the analytics described above;
- the sign-in provider you choose, which learns that you signed in to this site;
- authorities or other parties when the law requires it, or when needed to protect the rights and safety of our users, the public or us.
International transfers
Our service providers, including Google, PostHog and Cloudflare, process information in the United States and other countries whose data protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where the law requires it, these transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep information
- Account information, saved work and published content: while your account exists, or until you delete the item.
- Sessions: 100 days, or until you sign out.
- Request-limiting records: until their limit window has ended and routine request cleanup removes them.
- Web server access logs, assistant-app requests included: deleted after 15 days.
- World Recorder uploads: while your account exists. Game facts already added to the database stay after your account is deleted, without any link to you.
- Analytics: under the retention settings of Google Analytics and PostHog.
Your choices and rights
You can use the site without signing in, sign out at any time, hide each character, choose whether your recording statistics are public, unlink a computer from World Recorder, edit or delete your comments, and delete your screenshots. You can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser. Clearing local storage removes work held only in that browser; work already saved to your account remains there.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, receive a copy of it, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, and withdraw a consent you gave. To delete your account or exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected] from an address you control and name the sign-in provider and display name of your account; we may ask you to sign in to confirm it is yours. We answer within one month. You may also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Security
Session tokens, World Recorder keys and linking codes are stored only as one-way hashes, account data is kept on our own servers, and your browser connects to the site over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13, and children under 13, or under the minimum age for consent where they live, may not create an account. If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this notice
We update this notice when our practices change and show the new effective date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information we already hold, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it.
